Finalists Named for Green Car Vision Award

WASHINGTON -- (PR Newswire) -- Dec 20, 2007 -- Green Car Journal has identified five finalists for its inaugural Green Car Vision Award, which acknowledges a limited production vehicle that best envisions the road ahead. The award will be presented during a press conference at 11:30 a.m. on January 22, held during media day at the Washington Auto Show in Washington D.C.

"Recognizing vision is an important element in the process of moving forward toward better and more sustainable transportation," says Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and editor of GreenCar.com. "This is especially important these days as auto manufacturers deal with the realities of producing vehicles with substantially greater fuel efficiency without sacrificing safety, quality, functionality, and performance."

Narrowing choices down to five was not an easy task. With multiple plug-in hybrid demonstrations now emerging, numerous high-profile hydrogen programs in motion, and other advanced technology demonstrations or early commercialization efforts in the works involving E85 hybrids, battery electric vehicles, and other examples, Green Car Journal editors were challenged with the process.

"As the nomination process evolved, specific vehicles did emerge that stood above their peers," says Cogan. "In some cases the scope and dynamics of a vehicle program cinched a nomination, while in others sheer innovation caused a vehicle to stand out as a worthy contender. In all cases it was vision that set these nominees apart…the very essence of what the Green Car Vision Award program is all about."

The Green Car Vision Award nominees for 2008 are the BMW Hydrogen 7, Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell, Honda FCX Clarity, Phoenix Motorcars SUT, and Toyota Prius Plug-In HV. Additional depth on these vehicles is offered in the feature, "Top 5 Green Cars that Envision the Road Ahead," at www.greencar.com/features/green-car-vision.

Green Car Journal has two award programs, each targeted at a specific segment of the automotive world. The Green Car of the Year is the one full production vehicle each year that makes the most significant advancement on the environmental front. This award focuses on vehicles that are widely available to the public. The all-new Green Car Vision Award recognizes emerging technologies embodied in a limited production model that’s advancing a new generation of extraordinarily efficient and environmentally positive vehicles. This award is aimed at vehicles in the earliest phases of commercialization or in test and demonstration fleets.

The award-winning Green Car Journal has focused on the intersection of automobiles, energy, and environment since its launch in 1992. GreenCar.com offers hundreds of articles and news items on advanced and alternative fuel vehicles and technologies, all available to viewers for free.
