Green Car Journal Brings Advanced Vehicles to Environmental Journalists
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA -- Sept. 28, 2005 -- At the annual conference of the Society of Environmental Journalists in Austin, Texas, the mission is to network and learn how to improve the quality and accuracy of environmental reporting. Complementing this is the mission of Green Car Journal, which seeks to encourage understanding of the role that environmentally positive vehicles play in improving the environment and the quality of our lives.
The result: MEDIADRIVE 05, a ride-and-drive of high efficiency, low emission, and advanced technology vehicles being held in conjunction with the Society of Environmental Journalists 15th Annual Conference. Produced by Green Car Journal, MEDIADRIVE 05 provides SEJ conference attendees – among them the nation’s top environmental journalists – the unique opportunity to drive a wide array of vehicles ranging from near-zero emission gasoline, hybrid electric, and advanced diesel to those running on natural gas, biodiesel, and hydrogen. Over 20 vehicles from Ford, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, the Diesel Technology Forum, and the National Biodiesel Board will be on hand. GM’s hybrid “Magic Bus” will additionally transport journalists from host hotels to daily sessions at the University of Texas conference center.
“Environmental media rarely have the opportunity to drive such a diverse range of vehicles, fuels, and technologies all in one convenient location,” says Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal, an award-winning enthusiast magazine that focuses on these vehicles in every issue. “Yet, increasingly, these are the very journalists who will be writing about automobiles, energy, and the environment in the years to come. MEDIADRIVE 05 gives them first-hand, behind-the-wheel experience that allows added depth to their reporting.”
Green Car Journal’s bold features, easily-understood technical presentations, and viewpoints from auto and environmental leaders provide an exciting and informative read found nowhere else. The magazine’s Fall 2005 issue, which enjoys bonus distribution at the SEJ conference, includes articles on the all-new 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid, Chevy’s ethanol E85 Avalanche, and Ford’s near-zero emission gasoline Fusion. A special Concept/Prius section shows how this popular vehicle is being used for advanced projects like a hydrogen hybrid vehicle, propane hybrid, and plug-in hybrids that can operate like battery electric vehicles. Longtime oilman T. Boone Pickens also shares his perspective on the potential he sees for natural gas vehicles.
